Mr Vinter, Mrs Holmes and Mrs Westlake to welcome you to our page. Here you will find out about what the children have been learning, along with any other important class information
In key stage 3 we learn using REAL projects. In our project this term, we have investigated the human relationships and the reproductive system. We have covered subject, such as puberty, hygiene and positive relationships. The children have discussed and debated their ideas and shared their questions and feelings with the class.
In English this term we have been reading the play ‘The Blood Brothers’ by Willy Russell. The children have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the class reading of this book, discussing ideas and theme within the text. To support our learning, we have investigated what life was like in Liverpool at the time the book was set (1960 to 1980) produce character profiles for the main characters. We finally produced PEE paragraphs (point, evidence, explanation) to explain key ideas in the text, giving our opinion with evidence and quotes.
In maths this term we have been studying fractions. We have familiarised ourselves with what fractions are, the different ways we can represent fractions and the way they are used in life. We compared and explored equivalent fraction. Towards the end of the term we have started to calculate fractions of amounts.
Throughout our learning we will be applying reasoning and problem solving skills to deepen and broaden our understanding in each area. The children have also been working with the computer software Sumdog, all of the children have been given online access and can use the software anytime at home.
World Book Day
For World Book day, we were visited by a family of Native Americans. We listen to their stories and handle original animal skin clothing and artifacts. Following on from the amazing workshop the class created animal skin story maps and a short myth based on the stories we had been told.
This term our PE has focus has been Gymnastics next term will begin to work outside ready for the athletics season. In term 5 we will be swimming. The children will need swimming kits including swim wear and towels.
The children are given a range of homework each term which links to the topics being taught. Homework folders are provided containing a reading book and homework book. The children are responsible for their folders and they are expected to be return to school daily.
